With every army in training, drill and morning parade is very important to the discipline and maintaining order within the ranks. Here we have a small mortar squad from 13/IRGD 1 in April of 1942 during reforming and training. This was a chaotic time for GD as it became a division with two full infantry regiments and other support battalions. During this time the men from the original Infantry Regiment Großdeutschland were used to form the back bone for the new Infantry Regiment GD 1 which would later be renamed as Grenadier Regiment GD. IRGD 2 was formed from men outside of the regiment and would later be renamed as Fusilier Regiment GD.
